DQ

Last Friday we headed to Dairy Queen to take advantage of their blizzard deal...buy one get one for 25 cents.  In the pic above, the boys are waiting in anticipation...and here they are after their ice cream craving has been satisfied.

I also enjoyed a blizzard of my own...

Silas did something remarkable at Dairy Queen.  He said "please" for the ice cream!  Well, I should clarify.  He didn't actually SAY please with his mouth...but he signed it!

We had been doing some baby sign (all done, more, please, thank you) with Silas ever since he started eating solids.  However, he just didn't seem to catch on...so we had little motivation to be consistent.  When our friend Jessie and her son Elliot visited a couple of weeks ago, we were inspired by Elliot's ability to sign--and he's a week younger than Silas!  So we tackled signing with renewed vigor, and two weeks later are finally seeing results!

This video contains three magical components: Silas signing "please" for the bread, Silas feeding himself the bread, and Silas gagging on the bread. :)

Oh yes, and here's the picture I promised of the new haircut...

He's so big!

  1. That's super cute Jess! Way to go with the sign language! Jack and Cullen are 16 months now and still don't sign (Well, Jack has signed exactly twice in his entire life but Cullen never) so I've pretty much given up on all of them besides "eat/food" and "all done." I'm still clinging to a shred of hope that they'll catch on before they start talking...

We should come visit so Silas can teach them some manners!! And we'll be praying for all three of you too!

  2. YAY Silas!

We signed with Jerek and still do occasionally. We started around 4 months and he didn't use his first sign until 8 months (? I have it written down somewhere). It makes life so much easier when your child can communicate his basic needs and is less stressful then a screaming baby in the high chair!

Stick with it, it is worth it!
