For those of you who don't know yet...Nathan and I started having some concerns about Silas' development a few months ago, specifically his gross motor skills and his gagging/vomiting issues. At our pediatrician's recommendation, we decided to enroll him in First Steps, Kentucky's early intervention program for developmental delays.
We have started First Steps therapy with Silas, and through his evaluation and his physical therapy we have reason to belive that his delays are strictly physiological. PRAISE THE LORD. The physical therapist has told us that Silas' trunk is extremely rigid and affords him very little range of motion. She is wondering whether there is a link between his physical limitations and his gagging/vomiting. (Maybe a structural issue or an obstruction in his trunk.)
We just switched to a new pediatrician who is committed to helping us get to the bottom of all this. We have a "swallow test" scheduled for May 18 and an "upper GI" test on May 24. These could be the first of many tests in our sweet son's future.
As you can imagine, this has been an incredibly difficult time for us. The battle against fear and anxiety is daily, as we consider what kinds of disabilities our son might have. The Lord is graciously sustaining us and teaching us to trust in his goodness and in his perfect plan.
Please pray that...
- our pediatrican and physical therapist would have wisdom
- Silas' muscles would respond well to therapy
- we would continue to trust in the Lord and not in our circumstances
I'm so sorry that all of this is going on! We'll definitely be praying for little Silas! Let us know if you need anything.
