sand, sun, and smiles

Last Monday, Silas and I left with my parents and sister for the Sunshine State.  We flew (isn't it funny how parents decide to start doing cool things like fly to far-off places instead of drive all night once you're out of the house?) on Monday morning, and I stayed until Saturday (couldn't be away from the hubs for longer than that *wink).  We stayed with my grandparents in their little cottage...Silas slept in the bedroom with my parents, which was quite humorous.  My mom was up half the night on Monday, paranoid that my dad's snoring would wake Silas.  And then in the morning, they thought it would be a good idea to crawl out of the room on their hands and knees, as if that would prevent Silas from seeing them and getting upset. :)  It did get better, and I think by the end of the week everyone was sleeping fine.

Anyway, it was a really relaxing and wonderful week.  I gained four pounds (yes, I think my super-shrinking powers are waning now that Silas is almost weaned) from all the amazing food we ate, got slightly tan (come on, I was practically albino from having not seen the sun for ages...had to lather on that sunscreen!), and was humbled by the fact that out of all the games we played that week (Sevens, Toc, Canadian Salad, Fast Scrabble, Quadruple Solitaire, Three-Thirteen, Ten Card Golf), I won ZERO times.  Oh yes, and we went shopping at one point, where my mother postively SPOILED my son with the cutest clothes ever.  Can't wait to show you...

The family flight.

Oh yeah.  I chopped my hair off.  Well it wasn't planned exactly.  The bottom 4 inches got completely fried when I tried to color it back to blonde....so yeah.  Oopsie.

Here are Si and the 'rents at Wendy's after a long day of travel.

Silas is all ready for the pool!  Isn't that hat yummy?

Pretty sure he was grinning like that the whole time he was in the water.  He loved that floaty thing, an early birthday gift from Grandma Joanne and Grandpa John.  Please attempt to ignore the googly-eyed cartoon sea creatures and focus on the design and functionality.

A regular card shark.  On Aunt Cassie's team (lucky).

Remember this picture?

That was on an Alabama beach last June, when Silas couldn't even bear to open his little eyeballs.  And look how he's grown...

Loving every minute of it.

This is him trying to figure out the concept of "sand."

Going for the second beach walk of the day.  Silas was seriously laughing like the whole time.  Isn't this picture with his Papa so sweet??

I did get SOME cuddle time with my boy, although I had lots of competition...

Silas loves his Aunt Cassie.

Here he is cheering on the Buckeyes with Grandma...Not loud enough, I guess.  (Thanks for the onesie, Liz!)

Out in front of Grandma and Grandpa's place.  Love this picture!

And now our wonderful trip comes to an end...

But we're excited to see Daddy. :)

  1. Looks like a lot of fun!
Does he keep his hat on? And does that little strap work well? We just bought a hat like that for Simeon so his head won't get too much sun, but he takes it off as soon as we put it on! It doesn't have a strap b/c I couldn't find a hat w/ one. So I'm debating whether I should just return it or keep trying!

  2. Silas doesn't mess with his hat at all...maybe because I've put them on him since he was really little? This one is from Naartjie and has a very sturdy little velcro strap, which I love. I think Old Navy has bucket hats with straps, too, or at least they used to. I don't know, Simeon might never leave it alone, or he may get used to it after a while. Hard to say if a strap would help!

  3. Thanks for the tips about the hat, Jess! I was just about to go to Old Navy and get one with a strap when I was discussing this problem with another friend and she gave me a hand-me-down hat she had received that her son never keeps on. It has a strap, and it turns out Sim loves chewing on the strap so much that most of the time he keeps it on!
