ideas for one year birthday??

Silas will turn ONE in 3 1/2 short weeks, and I'd love to hear what some of you have done for your child's first birthday!  Did you make a cake or buy one?  Who did you celebrate with?  Did you decorate?  Did you play any games?  Did you buy a special onesie for your little guy/girl?  I'm all ears!

  1. HI Jessica
I just recently started reading your bog...your place is way too cute! For my oldest son's birthday I made a monkey cake and we had banana splits to go with it...I don't usually go all out for birthdays but this added a little twist to just the normal cake and ice cream. Can't wait to hear what you come up with!

  2. Meagan, I can't believe you have two little ones now...I bet you're busy. :) I love the idea of monkey cake and banana splits. How in the world did you make a monkey cake?? Such a cute idea, thanks!

  3. Jess,

Reese's first birthday is coming up in 3 weeks too! The theme is "Little Prince". I wanted to make his invitation on my Cricut but the idea in my head didn't turn out quite well. I instead had to tweak it and went out and retrieved some Burger King crowns and are using those as invitations. Check out my blog this week as I'll post a pic of how it turned out! I'm making him a crown cake and cupcakes for everyone else. We're doing a 2pm party so we're just going to have some finger foods like sandwiches, fruit, veggies, jello, etc.

Our family is so big that even if we just invite our family it's still around 50 people! So we decided to add on a few more and invite our small group, our pastors and a few family/friends from church. We're having the party at our church so we're not concerned with space! I have been collecting things for him such as a 1st birthday crown, bib, etc. but I do need to find a onesie! With all the people at his party we're just going to do food, hangout and presents. No games this year. We'll see what next year holds!

I love reading your blog and seeing your pictures! I can't wait to hear all about SIlas' birthday and how you decide to celebrate it! Enjoy!

  4. Wow, I love how you're totally going all out! Reese is a lucky boy to have you for his mom. :) Using BK crowns is a great idea. First birthdays kind of crack me up, because in reality it's mostly for the parents' enjoyment...We invite our own friends, have grown-up food, and there's no way our little men will even appreciate our efforts, much less remember the occasion. :) But it's still so fun! Good luck with your party!

  5. Jerek had a train theme for his first birthday. We bought a 1/4 sheet cake and my mom splurged and bought a train cake pan from William's and Sonoma that made 12 little train cars. The adults ate the cake and the kids each got a train car, Jerek got the engine! It was a huge hit. She decorated each car with candies and licorice. We invited around 40 people and did the same thing last year, but decided that it was too much for Jerek. So, tomorrow (eek!) we are just having close family and Jerek's best friend and his family over for cake, icecream, and a pinata per Jer's request!

Hope you have a blast and take lots of pictures!
