Freaked. Out. That's how I feel when I think about how old my baby is getting...I just want him to stay small forever! But I suppose that isn't a very healthy desire, is it? :)
Silas has proven to all of us that he will be taking his sweet time with most things and will reach those "developmental milestones" on his own timetable. We laugh about how unmotivated he still is to move around and eat big people food. (Maybe he's picking up on the "Don't grow up!" vibe from his mom?) But he is making progress. Here's what Silas is up to these days...
- Crawling? Not so much. However, he is becoming a proficient scooter...sideways and backwards, but not forwards. It's pretty funny to watch him get frustrated as the toy he is trying to reach only gets further and further away...
- He finally rolled from back to front for the first time the other day, like it was no effort at all. It's like he was saying, "See? I knew how to do this all along, I just didn't want to. So there."
- Silas is getting a lot better with texture and hasn't thrown up for a few weeks now. He even does okay when I put pieces of Cheerios or small bits of pasta into his mouth. However, he still shows no interest in feeding himself and thinks food on his tray is for playing, not eating.
- Waving and clapping are still his favorite tricks; he pulls them out whenever he wants to be the center of attention.
- He's cutting teeth! Finally! He has one little start of a tooth on the bottom as well as a nub next to it where tooth #2 is trying to push through the surface. He has been a teeny bit fussy in the evenings, but other than that seems to be doing fine.
- I've lost track of his haircuts. Four? Five? I've learned that the trick is to have Daddy hold him while watching some Loony Tunes on YouTube. He doesn't budge. And yes, his hair is always crazy poofy. He doesn't lack volume, that's for sure.
- We're still nursing. I'll probably wean him next month, not looking forward to it at all.
- Silas love his bed and always smiles so big when we put him down for his naps or for bedtime. He often talks himself to sleep, but hardly ever fusses.
- He LOVES sticking out his tongue. All the time. A smile without the tongue is rare these days.
- And speaking of smiling, Silas is honestly the happiest baby I have ever known. Crying is very unusual; he often goes a whole day without any tears at all. The only times he really cries is when he's hurt, scared, or sick. We are so thankful for such an easygoing, happy baby.
- Silas is very ticklish...gets it from his mama. He dies laughing every time.
- His favorite toys are the Jumparoo and the Fisher Price phone that lights up and talks to him.
- When Silas is in new situations, he looks and looks, usually reserving his smiles for when he gets comfortable. He never cries when I hand him off to a stranger, but boy do they get examined.
- Silas does great in the nursery at church. One of the nursery workers told me once, "The whole time, he was just sitting there watching the other babies crying as if to say, 'Come on you guys, what's the big deal?'" Needless to say, he is very popular. :)

I can totally relate about freaking out about your little boy growing up. Caleb just turned 6 months, and that was a bit of a tough milestone for me. I wish I could just hit "pause" and enjoy this time a little longer, but thankfully, our Father knows best, and things are as He intends them.
ReplyDeleteIt flies by, doesn't it! But as good as it is now, it keeps getting better!
ReplyDeleteSide note - if Silas does get cranky with the teething, there are teething tablets you can buy. They sell them out here at Walmart and Kroger I know for sure. They are all natural and ACTUALLY work. Jason even took some when his wisdome teeth were hurting him :-) Worked great for Jer.

Kelli, I think my "freaking out" mode is a result of sin in my heart...not trusting God, wanting to control...you're right, though, that the Lord knows what is best for us!
ReplyDeleteErin, thanks for the tip- another friend had told me about teething tablets a while back (did find them at Kroger), so luckily I already have them on hand just in case! Now both bottom teeth have pushed through, so I think we're past the worst of it...this time. :)
