Well, another dreaded milestone (?) has come and gone...and turned out not to be so bad. Silas got ear infections in both ears last week.
Isn't it hard as a mom to watch your kid cry as if he's in pain but have no idea why? I totally wish Silas could just open his sweet little mouth and tell me, "My gums hurt" or "Mom, I have lots of gas today" or "I'm feeling cranky for no good reason." I mean, honestly, the symptom for all those things are pretty much identical. At least, for Silas they are. Random, pitiful crying. Or maybe some of you are better at distinguishing than I am...?
Silas was practicing this random and pitiful crying when we were at small group last Tuesday. My only clues that it was different this time were:
1) He had just cut two teeth a couple of weeks ago, so I didn't think he was getting more already...And this crying seemed a little more pitiful than his very minor fussiness when teething.
2) He touched his cheek/temple a few times in frustration.
I may have easily decided it was teeth, though, but another mom at the small group was in agreement that it seemed like an ear infection. So we were off to the doctor the next day.
I thought they were going to tell me I was crazy, since he acted fine all morning up until we got to the doctor at 2:00. Seriously, no symptoms whatsoever. He was happily smiling at the doctor, until she stuck the thing in his ear and then he SCREAMED bloody murder. Poor little guy. She tried to make up with him, but he started screaming again as soon as she took him from me. Sorry, doc. Maybe next time.
He is really acting fine now and loves the amoxicillin (sp?) and literally sucks on the syringe when I put it in his mouth. I think he'll be sad when it's gone. :)

I totally agree, I could definitely benefit from Raegan telling me what's wrong, her symptoms are ALL the same!! Hope he's feeling better!
ReplyDeleteSorry Silas has an ear infection, we've escaped that so far but I have always heard they are so hard to diagnose so good job figuring out what it was! And Jackson and Cullen both love antibiotics too, they sucked the syringe dry and then cried for more. I started asking them if they wanted to have some candy when it was time for antibiotics ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree it's nice that Asher can just tell us when he's sick. Hope your little guy feels better soon!
