ultrasound #2 (requiring major self-control)

Wow, I haven't posted for a long time.  No excuses here.  I'll try to do better, I promise!

We had our big ultrasound on Tuesday of last week!  No 3D images this time, so the shots were pretty disappointing.  Here's the best we got:

I'll try to interpret these, since some people have a lot of trouble "seeing" the baby. :)  The shot on the left is an arm coming from the left, extending toward the right.  The hand is very visible, right next to the white text that says, "hand."

In the shot on the right, the baby is lying on his/her right side, face toward you.  The nose is directly down from the text "OB" at the top.  You can easily make out the squinty eyes and the mouth from there.

Even with fuzzy images, it was great to see the baby moving around.  What a miracle!  We are thankful to the Lord that everything looks normal.  (Some of you might remember that Silas had some extra fluid in his urethral tubes, requiring a couple of extra diagnostic ultrasounds.  It worked itself out in the end, but it's nice this time around not to have to worry about that!)

The ultrasound technician was shocked that we didn't want to find out the gender.  She said only about 1% of the ultrasounds she does are surprises.  She warned us ahead of time that she'd be using "he" as a default pronoun throughout the ultrasound.

At one point she said, "Okay, I'm going between the legs.  Don't look!"  Nathan and I obediently averted our eyes.  In a minute or so it was over.  I looked at her face and said, "So...do you know what we're having?"  She smirked.  "Yup."

Ahhh, the agony!

She offered to write it down in an envelope, but we decided that was just inviting temptation. :)

So now it's over.  We made it through the hardest part.  Only 18ish weeks to go!

  1. I bet it'll be so great to be be surprised when he or she is born! Reading about your experience has made me want to be surprised the next time around, too.

  2. You're good to go now. It's fun from here on out, in my opinion. The first 20 weeks are killer. Yay! Can't wait to meet your sweet baby Lugbill the 2nd. :)

PS: Yes, I read your blog!

  3. Hooray! Glad to hear your little baby is doing well!! And, did I tell you that they moved my due date to Feb. 8th?? That means we might have our kiddos on the same day! And we had our ultrasound a few weeks ago and our tech wasn't too shocked we didn't want to know - I'm glad she didn't try to tempt us like yours did. :) But she did tell us to close our eyes b/c she had to measure the baby's feet and he/she was sitting cross legged. :) Miss you friend!!
