babymoon #2

We're hoping to take a "babymoon" in December!  This will be our first weekend alone since Silas was born, and we're pretty pumped.  Not that we don't love our boy...but alone time is definitely a blessing. :)

We're hoping it works out for my parents to watch Silas, which means we need to find a place to go somewhere near Archbold, Ohio.  Indianapolis, maybe?  Here are our criteria:

1. Not too expensive
2. Somewhere in the Indiana/Ohio region
3. Cozy accommodations (Since it's winter, we'd prefer something like a bed-and-breakfast rather than just a hotel)
4. Good restaurants nearby
5. A Christmasy ambiance to put us in the mood for the holidays (I love Christmas!)

Does anyone have a recommendation?  I know many of you live in this area!

  1. I love Amish Country in ohio! It's so cute, with lots of fun Christmas shops and things going on and there are plenty of little bed and breakfast spots.. we love going!

  2. And Dad's suggestion is Amish country in Indiana--like Middlebury/Shipshewana. He was not influenced by A and L's--He thought of it on his own--before we read their comment.

I'm going to try to connect with you on Friday. What time do you plan to be on the road?

    Love, Mom

  3. Curt and I love Berlin, OH. It's Amish country- pretty cheap, and lots to do and see!!! The Village Inn is only $50 a night, there's a cheese factory - with free samples (which Curt LOVES) lots of indoor flea markets and specialty shops... and it's only a few hours from Archbold

  4. Hey Jes,
Look into Brown Co. in Indiana. It's about 40 min south of Indy. It's a really cute little town with tons of places to stay. The downtown get's decked out for Christmas too! It's one of my favorite places to walk around and hang out with Josh.

    See you soon!

  5. We have friends that own a B&B in Grand Rapids, OH; The Millhouse. Not even an hour from Archbold. They are wonderful Christian innkeepers and Grand Rapids is the cutest, quaint little town. They have a room with a whirlpool tub OR they have a room with a huge king size bed (that is the one we stayed in for our babymoon!) Lots of fun antique/little town stores. Also, by that time of the year Perrysburg should be doing their horse and carriage rides through their downtown. Levis Commons has some great little shops. AND Fallen Timbers mall does horse and carriage rides through their mall.

  6. Thanks for the tips, everyone! I checked out every single one...and I think the Shipshewana/Middlebury area is the winner. We can get a full bed & breakfast experience for just $80 a night, and the distance is very nice, because we can meet family in Ft. Wayne to transfer Silas. I appreciate your help!!!
