We've been really encouraged by more progress with Silas' motor skills in the past week!
Every week at therapy, Michelle gives us specific exercises to do with Silas that focus on particular skills. This week we're doing therapy exercises that work Silas' oblique muscles: sitting on a big storage container and reaching down for toys below his waist, and sitting upright on an unstable surface (in our case, a couch cushion). We're also practicing kneeling this week using a step stool. Silas can balance on his knees for a few seconds at a time, usually when he's playing with a toy and not paying attention to what his body is doing all by itself. )
Si is rolling more and more and has entered that phase where he flips over during nap time and then doesn't remember how to flip back so he can get to sleep. We're hoping this phase doesn't last long...maybe he'll start sleeping on his tummy? Not sure if it's best to let him cry and figure it out or continuously go in to his room and help him flip back over. Any advice, fellow mommies?
Check out what else Silas is doing...
Yup, he's finally transitioning out of sitting to his tummy! It's getting more and more natural, although he tends to only want to do it to one side. We've found out through therapy that the left side of his trunk is much weaker than the right side, so we have to work on that.
In other news, Silas has been stringing more syllables together and has become quite a little babbler. It's a huge difference between the "DA DA DA" we were used to hearing and the babbling, which sounds like he's actually trying to communicate something.
Silas has also recently become quite attached to a stuffed blue elephant named "Peanut" and loves to snuggle him in his crib.
And lastly, Si is really loving this big board book, because he can actually turn the pages by himself!

I just let my little one cry in her crib when she rolls over and tries to roll back but can't. She's learned to sleep on both her back and stomach, and it didn't take her long to figure it out. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's great that's you've already seen so much improvement! I'm afraid I don't have any advice on the sleeping thing, though - as soon as Simeon learned to roll over to his tummy, he much preferred sleeping that way.
ReplyDelete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd love it if Si learned to sleep on his tummy! However, I'm thinking it's not going to happen...whenever we peek in at him, he is up on hands and knees, not exactly a sleeping position. I'm thinking flipping back over will be the more likely solution at this point. We'll see. :)
ReplyDeleteJess,
ReplyDeleteSilas looks like he is doing awesome!! I am so glad to see his progress! I also enjoyed seeing your sweet response to him doing so well! What a sweet, loving mommy you are!! :-) I would love to get together with you soon. Maybe we could try to reschedule our consignment store outing?...
