...we have solved the sippy issue!
As you may remember, I ordered three different kinds of sippies to test on Silas. The ThinkBaby ($9.99), the Safe Sippy ($14.99), and the Nuk Trainer Cup w/ silicone spout ($5.99). Guess which one Silas latched onto? Yup. The cheapo Nuk. **insert eye roll here**
The Nuk doesn't leak at all, so we don't have any issues with moldy burp rags. It comes with a travel cap, so we no longer have to use a ziploc bag every time we take it somewhere. And the silicone spout is nice and soft. It took a couple of days for him to get the hang of it, but now he is sucking like a pro.
I just ordered three more of the Nuk sippies. I suppose maybe I could return the others, but honestly, returning stuff to Amazon seems like a lot of work. Plus, I figure it might be good to have a variety on hand for the next little Lugbill boogers to test and reject, thus preventing me from spending even MORE money later. :)
Thanks again to all of you for your helpful advice! It was great to have a bunch of mommy minds thinking with me.
Silas only drinks about two sippies full of milk a day. Juice and water don't interest him. I asked his ped about it, but they said not to worry, he'll drink if he's thirsty. Fellow moms, how much do your babies drink?

2 cup fulls sounds like plenty...especially at his age. I feel like my girls haven't really gotten into milk until 15-18 months. Even then, our culture is a little cowmilk obsessed...I have friends who weaned at 1 year but didn't do cow's milk until their kids were 2 years old. They still ate cheese, yogurt, and a good variety of other stuff so they got plenty of protein and calcium that way. All that to say, I agree with your doc. :)
ReplyDeleteI think Raegan probably has 2 1/2 sippys of milk a day..which is a great step for her, she refused milk for a few weeks from a sippy. plus maybe 1 sippy of half juice/half water. Maybe she's drinking too much???
ReplyDeleteGlad you found one that worked!
That's about the amount Addison drinks. Our pediatrician actually doesn't want babies drinking more than 16 ounces of milk/day. He'd rather they get full on various nutrients, not just milk nutrients! Sounds like he's doing great! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, ladies, for confirming my thoughts! I think he's doing just fine.
ReplyDeleteSounds good! At 3 Jerek has 1-2 sippies of milk, at meals, and 1-2 sippies of 1/2 water 1/2 juice. We got into a routine of = sippies of milk and juice to help his bm's.
