**yell of frustration**

That's what I had to hold back when I sorted the laundry just now.  (Silas was sleeping, or I might have just given in.)

I have been diligently rinsing and treating my burp cloths and Silas' shirts to avoid mold.  And what was my reward this week?  Two burp rags completely filled with mold that had spread to one of Nathan's t-shirts and one of Silas' cute little plaid shirts.  It was so bad that I just threw them all in the trash (except Silas' shirt, which I am attempting to bleach with very little hope).

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong...?

Not wanting to work much harder at the laundry situation, I've decided I am DONE with the Nuby sippy cups.  That is the only brand Silas would drink out of because they have soft nipples, but they are incredibly messy and horrible.  And he cutting two teeth right now, which means he just chews on the nipple and milk sprays EVERYWHERE.

I have also tried the Boon sippies and the Tommy Tippee trainer cups.  Silas won't drink from either.  I don't really want to just spend a bunch of money getting millions of different sippy cups to try, but I'm getting desperate.

I need a sippy that is completely spill proof that Silas will drink from.  Is this too much to ask?  Does anyone have a recommendation?  I've considered trying straw cups instead.

I'm also wondering...is it bad to only offer him a spill-proof cup for a while, hoping that eventually he'll get thirsty enough to try harder to get the milk?  I've been half-heartedly offering the Tommy Tippee cup, but he just plays with it, and eventually I give in and give him the Nuby.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Caleb uses the Gerber Graduates sippy cup, which I bought at Walmart. The nipple isn't very soft or anything, but so far it doesn't leak. We're only putting water in it now, but I know the spill-proof aspect will be a huge benefit down the road.

  2. Straw cups are the way to go! I've seen babies who weren't good with cups go right to the straws! As a caution, they do like to bite the straws. :)

  3. Have you tried drinking out of the sippy cup yourself to entice him? That's what we did to get Simeon to drink out of one - he just wasn't quite getting it and never wanted to, but once we started doing it, he wanted to drink out of what we were using. Even now, if I take a drink first, he's much more likely to drink out of it.

  4. The Munchkin straw sippy cups work for us. Although Penelope will still only take water from them and insists on milk from a bottle in the AM and PM. I'm guessing she'll grow out of it...I haven't see 10 year olds insisting on milk from bottles.

  5. Avent bottles also make attachments that turn the bottles into sippies. They have progressive nipples just like for their bottles and they start soft. Just an idea.
