elmo t-shirts.

Check out these cute shirts I made for Silas and Ivy! They're for his Elmo birthday party next week.

Please do not be impressed. I am not posting this so that you will think I am crafty and clever. I am posting this because I think these t-shirts are so easy that anyone could do it! And these shirts were much less expensive (and I think a lot cuter) than any other Elmo shirts I could find.

I used this tutorial by one of my favorite bloggers, Dana from MADE.

First you print off an image from your computer onto freezer paper. I just searched in Google for "Elmo coloring pages" to find a nice crisp image.

Then you cut out the image with an exacto knife and a cutting board.

Next you iron it onto your t-shirt, as you see below. This creates a nice seal for the painting step.

Next you paint with fabric paint over your stencil.

And then after it dries (this is the fun part!) you peel the stencil off! Voila!

Silas's turned out so cute I decided to make one for Ivy too out of a onesie. Then I decided to make one for Silas's friend Rose who is also coming to the party. I may have gotten a little t-shirt-happy.

I did have some glitches...I messed up two shirts. The first time I forgot to put something inside the shirt to keep the paint from seeping through to the back. And then doing Rose's I got a little excited about the painting and didn't notice I was painting past the outside border of the stencil onto the shirt. Oops. So make sure you don't do that, okay? :)

I'll be sure to post pictures of the party next week!

  1. Yay! Awesome job! I've been dying to try one of these freezer paper stencils...and now I think Gracen is coveting the elmo shirts. I think this just might be the kick in the pants I needed to make this happen....maybe after Easter I'll be motivated. maybe.
