'tis the season to be jolly!

Fa la la la la la la la la. Such meaningful words. :)

Lots of Christmas activity going on this week. Saturday we decorated for Christmas. At my mom's house, this involves hours of work. At our apartment, about 20 minutes. Here is our pathetically small fake tree decorated in ornaments I received throughout my childhood. I think it's cute, though...?

And I mentioned our stockings from Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids before, but here is my little display, complete with a red sprig from Target in our already festive green vase. Nathan was so sweet to let me do this on our limited budget; I'm allowed to make one Christmas purchase every year.

Silas and I attended a Christmas party organized by moms from our church, Third Avenue. Lots of little crafts and treats to share!

Sweet little Cara, displaying a nametag she designed herself. :)

Silas is getting good at sitting up and playing!

Sleepy little dinosaur. I think it might be naptime. :)

After getting Silas all bundled for our Christmas outing, he couldn't move. At all.

Frankfort Avenue, close to our house, had a little Christmas festival of sorts, complete with a church bazaar (lots of old people brought their ancient junk- no treasures whatsoever), Santa himself, and carriage rides that only cost 25 cents. So we walked over and took a look around. This store reminds me of Ten Thousand Villages and had lots of the same stuff. Nathan is entertaining Silas with a turtle finger puppet.

Silas is already skeptical...Is he for real, Mom? You expect me to believe what?

Meeting "Mr. Bud"

Ready for the ride!

Feel free to post and share how you're gearing up for Christmas! Have you decorated yet? Any ideas on how to be festive on a budget? Are your towns doing anything fun like this for Christmas?

  1. Our tree is even smaller than that! Josh & I have stockings, but we don't have anywhere to put them. So if your decorations are pathetic, ours are about ten times more so! :-)
I'm hoping to go ice skating sometime soon. That's always one of my favorite wintertime activities. As soon as we find a babysitter/go visit Grandma & Grandpa ;-)

  2. Ashley and I were talking about how it can be difficult to decorate on a budget...I have to remember my parents built up their christmas stuff for many years before it got to the point where I remember it!

This year we bought a tiny potted tree from Trader Joe's. I'm decorating it with cranberry strings and some paper stars. : ) No stockings yet...we just sorta stack our little presents on the table. Haha!

Other than that, we're just taking it easy and waiting for our girl!

  3. Thanks for sharing, ladies! I agree, Kristin...it's encouraging for me to realize that my mom didn't have all this stuff when they got married 28 years ago. We have sooo much time to "build" our homes, not just for Christmas, but furniture, decor, appliances, etc. And it's even more encouraging when I take a step back and think, "In light of eternity, it really doesn't matter how big my Christmas tree is or whether our couch looks like it's from the 80s. It's just stuff."

That said, I do think it's great fun to try and get creative with what you have to work with. Love the idea of cranberry strings and paper stars!

  4. Jessica, I know your tree is small but is is really pretty!! I wish I was more strict than you in buying Christmas stuff! I am a HUGE Christmas decorator in our home! Derek really did not have Christmas at his house (his dad put up a styrofoam santa head and that is it on the decorations) so I tend to go all out! We went through our Christmas stuff this fall and took a lot to Salvation Army etc. I have been a bit better this year in not buying everything but I need to learn your ability to say no! :) I really enjoy your posting, please keep it all up!
