strong little man!

Something very exciting happened this morning...Silas rolled over from his tummy to his back!!! He was just having some tummy time and working those neck muscles, and somehow he got his left arm under his body. Next thing I knew, he had pushed himself onto his side, and then completely onto his back! After doing some research I found that the average baby rolls over sometime between 4 and 7 months. Silas is already proving to be quite the athlete; Daddy is so proud. :)

I forgot to mention last week that Silas' umbilical cord fell off at 9 days. It freaked me out, because it was very bloody and looked terrible right at first. I actually had to leave the room while Mom doctored it up. But now he has a really cute belly button, a little bit of an outtie.

Silas continues to sleep for consistent 5 hour stretches at night. People have asked me why I wake him up at 3:30 if he would sleep longer. Well, I have several reasons. First, I am following the Baby Wise method, and the book says that babies should not go longer than 5 hours between feedings for at least the first 6 weeks. Second, I feel better making sure Silas is getting 8 feedings a day, since he is kind of lazy at the breast and very rarely lets me know on his own that he is hungry. So, call me crazy, but I am going to continue waking him up in the middle of the night for three more weeks before letting him sleep longer. It's really not that bad; I keep going back to bed between feedings until 10:00, and I take an afternoon nap almost every day.

Silas resumes his favorite activity. He continues to take his sleeping very seriously.

Nathan and I had our first post-Silas date last week while Mom babysat. We went out for coffee. It was great to get out of the house together and talk about things unrelated to babies. :) As you can see, I was still pretty thick around the middle at two weeks post-partum. I hated to post this picture, but I figure it will encourage me as I continue to get smaller. (I still have 16 pounds to lose, according to the scale this morning...)

Silas stared at Nathan like this for at least 15 minutes while we went for a walk outside.

Here are some pictures of Silas' first "real" bath in the sink after his cord fell off. As you can see, he remained calm throughout.

He didn't mind the bath itself, but he hated feeling so cold when it was over...Note the cute little belly button. :)

And here he is in the big bathtub this morning. I think he is starting to really like bath time. He's chubbing up, too, as you can see by the rolls forming on his little thighs.

  1. Oh yay, new pictures!! I want to come see you but unfortunately both of my kids got sick last week. They're on the tail end of it now, but I'll wait a little longer just to be on the safe side. I wouldn't want to bring my germ-infested kids around precious little Silas. We'll wait until they're germ-free. But I keep telling they they can't go visit their friend Silas until they're all better, it gives them motivation to get well soon!
