potty training take 2.

Well, we tried potty training again. Remember our first unsuccessful attempt? This time we were closer to being successful. Does that get any points? :)

We decided to try the "naked-in-the-backyard-trying-to-go-every-15-minutes" approach. With stickers and M&Ms. I let Ivy be naked with a sticker chart too, even though I figured she wouldn't quite get the concept.

Day One I was Supermom. Baby pool, coloring, painting, games...

It was so ridiculously hot. I almost died of heat stroke/boredom. So Day Two looked more like this.

And then we moved inside for Day Three. Accidents were getting fewer, but successes weren't exactly frequent. We even gave Daddy a sticker chart and M&Ms, to help motivation. :) Silas had lots of trouble with the *ahem* release mechanism. He would tell me he had to go and then sit on the potty and...nothing. And he would keep dancing around for like another hour or two before finally letting it go, usually off the potty. Basically he was getting really good at holding it. Too good. After we had been at it for a week, he went from the time he woke up until 4:00 in the afternoon without going. So I called the doctor, and they said...Back in diapers he goes. A UTI is just around the corner. So that was that. And I'm resigned to having three in diapers. Sigh.

  1. Three in diapers isn't bad, and I've been doing it for almost 7 months! I figure diapers are easier than dropping everything (including a baby) and running to the toilet every time a newly trained toddler needs to go. And all the older, wiser moms whom I respect keep telling me to not push it and when they're ready, they'll go. I guess we have to hang in there a little longer. :)
