Let's talk about why I haven't been blogging much lately...
My sister, Alyssa, was visiting us last week on her J-term break...more on that later.
Also, my life is crazy right now with work.
"Work?!" some of you might say, "I didn't know you had a job!"
Well, I'm sneaky, because I work from home, usually in my pj's with a fresh cup of coffee in hand.
I work for the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, a non-profit membership organization that provides services for said members such as student programs, networking tools, Christian higher ed publications, and conferences (my field).
Before Silas was born, I worked as their receptionist. Funny story about how I got the job...I had been a nanny for 7 months in DC but had sort of gotten laid off. So I was living the unemployed life, hanging out at Starbucks and transcribing a sermon for CHBC in my purple sweatpants with blue shorts over them, topped off with a hot pink sweatshirt. I hadn't showered in a couple of days and wasn't really looking "my best." All of a sudden I hear someone calling my name through the fog of my headphones. It was Heidi Prillwitz, a girl I knew at Taylor, with her friend, Jennifer! After catching up a bit, I learned that Heidi worked for the CCCU, and she learned that I was looking for a job. Well, guess who Jennifer was? The HR person at the CCCU. Jennifer mercifully saw something promising beneath the greasy hair and crazy outfit. She emailed me before I even got home, asking for my resume.
The Lord graciously dropped the job into my lap. The office was 5 blocks from where we lived. I had normal hours and decent pay with great benefits.
Well, then I got pregnant, so I left after 9 months, but they hired me back on, part-time, as "Forum Sponsorship Manager." I worked from home in DC, and continue to work here in Louisville. They hooked me up with a laptop and pay our internet bill. And I get to make money while taking care of Silas. What a blessing!
My job is temporary; they hired me specifically for the Forum on Christian Higher Education, a big event coming up at the end of February. My job is to find sponsors and exhibitors for the Forum and make sure we get their logos, they get their reps registered, etc. I'm going to the Forum in Atlanta in 3 weeks, and Silas is coming with me. And my mom is coming, too, to take care of Silas.
So usually I only work 10 hours a week, but in the last few weeks it's been more like 15-20. And I've taken one day trip to DC already (with Silas!) for a meeting, and I have a 3-day trip to DC next week...So basically, I'm swamped, and I will be until the Forum is over. I'm going on vacation in March. Hooray! I can't wait!
So I'm sorry about the lack of blogging (and this long and uninteresting post), but at least now you know why, and you know there is an end in sight. So stick with me, folks, for just a few more weeks! :)
