speech update

We just said goodbye to Silas's speech therapist on Tuesday. This should tell you how much progress he has made with his communication in the past few months.

Silas is saying so many words I can't count them any more. He picks up maybe half a dozen words every day. He is repeating everything we say and answering questions. Some of my favorite phrases:

"Ah-bee seep-eep-ing." (Ivy is sleeping.)

"Hoo-hee ma-soon-ah." (Cookie monster.)

"Uvoo, Mommy." (I love you, Mommy.)

"D Dah-doh-soh." (D is for Dinosaur- one of his favorite books.)

Silas greets everyone (in the grocery store, on the elevator, etc.) with a friendly "Hi" and a huge smile. We make friends everywhere we go. He also "sings" the entire ABC song all by himself, including the "Now I know my ABCs" refrain.

Speaking of ABCs, Silas has a Leapfrog toy that he is obsessed with. He can now identify all his letters by name AND by sound. He can often tell you what letter is at the beginning of a word.

There are still some things we need to work on. Silas still isn't asking questions or changing the pitch of his voice very much. He has a little trouble answering "where" questions and is nowhere near understanding "why" questions. He also has trouble biting off bits of food rather than stuffing huge pieces into his mouth. But I am really happy that these are things we can work on at home together rather than continuing to need formal support!
